Exeter (England), September 2011 - Hi folks! So here we are in Exeter! Our third experience in the UK has really been cool. Exeter is not a very big city so we really had time to visit it and its amazing cathedral…in the spare time, I mean. As usual everybody has been busy each morning and part of the afternoon at school…and a very good school indeed, with nice British teachers, all quite young.  But that’s not all, of course. Lots of shopping, water sports (even if the weather was not always so nice), meeting friends at the local McDonald’s,  trips to discover other  interesting places, some chat with the host family in the evening, “real British” food and….lots of fun being with our friends every day! Soooo….ask around and join us next year….if you want to know more read the FAQs!
So long!

1.      THE WEEK BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL  AND THE FIRST SCHOOL WEEK…that’s for many reasons: to begin with

  • IT’S CHEAPER!,
  • there are fewer Italian students in England at that time,
  • schools availability is bigger,
  • it’s school beginning in England too

2.      It depends…. We try to change our destination every year so to give the opportunity to taste different aspects of British culture, landscape and language variety. Anyway it will be always within the UK borders.

3.      Absolutely with British families! We strongly believe that this is useful to improve our language knowledge, to get in touch with authentic British life and understand better what we learn at school. Every two students will be put up with their new families that will look after them and provide breakfast, dinner and CONVERSATION!!!

4.      VERY different  from our school from the organization point of view. Generally speaking students must begin school at 9 a.m. and usually have two breaks throughout the morning. They have lunch at school with their packed lunch (provided either by their families or by the school itself). Lessons are from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. and sometimes there are two more lessons in the afternoon for project work.

5.      You will be split up into small groups according to your level of language knowledge and you will be practising spoken English above all. Sometimes your group will be also asked to make project works that will be shown at the end of the course.  Lessons here aim at improving your speaking, listening and reading skills. Don’t worry: you won’t have any grammar tests!!

6.      Of course you will! Some of it will be spent all together going sightseeing . However, you’ll have  the chance to go shopping or visiting around on your own or with your group of friends as well.

7.      You are allowed to go out in the evenings with your teachers or on your own... but always in groups. Of course there’s a curfew that must be agreed with your teachers and the families and that must be absolutely respected.

8.      Definitely YES! It doesn’t matter if you make mistakes or if you find it hard at the beginning. What’s important is that you have a try!

As far as we are concerned it seems that this has worked out very well as the students really are enthusiastic about that. If you don’t believe just try!!
